Individuals hold multiple identities. Sometimes, like in this instance, I am thinking about where to start as I share who I am and what I focus on at Research PLUS. Here goes….
I am an action researcher who facilitates and supports participatory action, knowledge generation and learning for organisations, community groups, partnerships for social change. I believe that action learning and research processes support transformative social change across all themes/sectors. As a practitioner and intellectually curious learner, I intentionally and consciously position myself to learn from peers on the technical aspects of different themes in order to better support, design and adapt monitoring, evaluation and learning processes. I worked in the development and humanitarian space for over 15 years with extensive experience in women’s rights, governance, human rights, vocational training, emergency education, food security, water hygiene and sanitation and health & nutrition.
I serve as the Director Strategy and Planning. In this position, I have the privilege of leading and being part of several teams. At strategy level, I lead and facilitate strategic thinking for the company. This includes being part of envisioning where we want to be in the long term and what we need to do in the medium and short term. This keeps us focused on the big picture, which is taking research in Africa to greater height. I l also lead the operations, human resource and PLUS teams.
At the core of it, I love Africa, African people and especially the African woman. I love how diverse, rich and vibrant African culture is. While nothing is the same in each corner of the continent, the unmistakable joy, welcoming nature, community feeling, care and love binds us together. Indeed, as we take research in Africa to greater heights, the continent is taking its place as a leader in knowledge, innovation and influencing the rest of the world.
